Thinking about replacing your air conditioner and furnace with a single, energy efficient HVAC system that can heat AND cool your home? You can free up space in your backyard and save money by installing a heat pump in your Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC home! If you want to install a heat pump in your home, call Magnolia Heating & Air Conditioning today!

Why should you install a heat pump?

Heat pumps are so efficient because they don’t burn fuel to create heat. Instead, they operate as normal air conditioners during the summer and reverse air conditioners in the winter!

You probably already know how air conditioners work: air cycles through your home’s ductwork, every now and then passing over your AC’s evaporator coil which pulls heat out of the air. That air is then blown back through the ducts to cool your home. During the heating season, heat pumps do basically the same thing, but in reverse. Instead of absorbing heat from the inside air and moving it outside, heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air and use it to heat up the air inside your home. The result? Extremely energy efficient heating that burns no fuel, saving you money and benefitting the environment.

Do heat pumps work even when it’s really cold?

At Magnolia Heating & Air Conditioning, we hear this all the time. A lot of people don’t really get how a heat pump can pull enough heat out of the air to make the inside of the home feel warm even when it’s 40F outside. The one thing many people don’t realize is that there’s still heat in the air when the temperature starts to get low, and most heat pumps these days are good enough to pull it out. Most heat pumps can work until it gets down to about 25F (which doesn’t happen in Maryland, Virginia or DC very often). And for those occasional days when the temperature does drop more than you expect, most heat pumps come with backup electric heaters to account for the difference.

Best of all, heat pump technology is improving every day! Many modern heat pumps include what are known as Reverse Cycle Chillers (RCCs), which eliminate the periodic blowing of cool air that most heat pumps go through during their defrost cycles. RCCs also allow heat pumps to operate at much lower temperatures – in fact, some RCCs can provide hot water at 115 F even when it’s 15 F outside!

If you live in Maryland, Virginia or Washington, DC and are tired of paying too much on your monthly heating and cooling bills, call Magnolia Heating & Air Conditioning. We can install a heat pump in your home and keep you warm for less!
